THE UAE & OMAN
HOSPITALITY & ENTREPRENEURSHIP EXPERIENCE
The primary focus of this experiential learning trip is an immersive study of hospitality, tourism, innovation and entrepreneurship in the United Arab Emirates and Oman—regions recognized as both the birthplace of hospitality and global leaders in tourism innovation.

Students selected for this experience will be exposed to diverse aspects of hospitality, tourism, and entrepreneurship, including but not limited to:
• Lodging and hospitality models (luxury, business, lifestyle, heritage, and community-based accommodations)
• Guest experience environments (global attractions, sacred and cultural sites, heritage districts, desert and community tourism settings)
• Food and beverage concepts (luxury dining, culturally rooted cuisine, and entrepreneurial food ventures)
• Destination management and tourism leadership (engagement with hotel executives, tourism authorities, entrepreneurs, and innovation hubs)
• Transportation and mobility systems (global hub airlines, aviation–tourism integration, urban and regional transport)
• Tourism development models (luxury, cultural and heritage, community-based, sustainable/regenerative, and technology-enabled tourism)
• Hospitality at Its Source: Understanding hospitality in its original cultural and spiritual context, where welcoming the guest is a deeply rooted, sacred responsibility.
• Guest Experience Design: Observing and analyzing how emotionally engaging guest journeys are designed across luxury, heritage, and community-based settings.
• Innovation & AI Integration: Exploring how technology and artificial intelligence enhance personalization, efficiency, and authentic human connection.
• Entrepreneurship & Destination Development: Gaining insight into how hospitality and tourism ventures are created and sustained in global and emerging markets.
• Cultural Intelligence & Global Perspective: Building intercultural awareness, adaptability, and professional confidence through direct engagement.
• Tourism as a Force for Good: Seeing firsthand how tourism can address complex global challenges and advance peace and intercultural understanding.
• Student Status: Applicants must be enrolled as full-time BYU–Hawaii students during the semester of application (Winter 2026).
• Academic Standing: Applicants must maintain a cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 3.0 or higher.
• Honor Code Standing: Applicants must have no past or present violations on record with the BYU–Hawaii Office of Honor.
• Professional Conduct: Applicants must demonstrate professionalism, maturity, and the ability to represent BYU–Hawaii and the Church appropriately in international settings.
• Career Intent & Relevance: Applicants must demonstrate a clear sense of purpose for participating in the program and explain how the experience aligns with their academic, professional, or entrepreneurial goals in the Asia-Pacific area.
• Cultural & Legal Respect Agreement: Applicants must agree to abide by the BYU–Hawaii Honor Code at all times and to respect the laws, customs, religious practices, and cultural norms of the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
• Training & Preparation Commitment: Applicants must commit to attending all required pre-departure training sessions and meetings and to arrive on time and fully prepared.
• Dress & Professional Representation: Participants are expected to dress and present themselves in a manner consistent with university and Church standards, including professional attire and modest dress appropriate for religious and cultural environments.
• Relevance of the UAE–Oman Experience: Applicants must explain how participating in this experiential learning trip to the United Arab Emirates and Oman will directly support their academic and professional goals in Asia-Pacific.
• Purpose and Impact: Applicants must discuss their motivation for pursuing work connected to hospitality, tourism, entrepreneurship, or guest experience and how they plan to use hospitality, tourism, or experience-based industries as tools to strengthen communities, address complex challenges, or advance peace and intercultural understanding in their home country or the Asia–Pacific region
• Professional Preparation: Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to their intended field (e.g., work experience, internships, entrepreneurship, service, leadership, or volunteer activities).
• Engagement with Hospitality, Tourism, Entrepreneurship or Experiential Learning: Applicants must describe how they have engaged with hospitality, tourism, entrepreneurship or experiential learning through coursework, co-curricular activities, employment, service, or other meaningful experiences. Examples may include HTM courses, campus clubs, guest lectures, workshops, research projects, presentations, field trips, service activities, or other relevant involvement.
